This shapes up as a potential big season for plenty of teams that werent big factors in last years NCAA Tournament. The preseason Top 25 that was released Monday includes five teams that failed to reach the 2016 NCAA Tournament. Theyre all included in this list of six potential 2017 NCAA Tournament contenders that werent included in the 2016 field.---CREIGHTON2015-16 record: 20-15 (NIT quarterfinals)No. 22 Creighton returns three players who had double-figure scoring averages last season in seniors Maurice Watson Jr. (14.1), Cole Huff (11.3) and Isaiah Zierden (10.2). Watson led the Big East with 229 assists last season, and he has the most career assists (639) of any active Division I player. Creighton adds Marcus Foster, who transferred from Kansas State after leading the Wildcats in scoring each of his two years there. Khyri Thomas is back after starting 28 games for Creighton as a freshman last season.---FLORIDA STATE2015-16 record: 20-14 (NIT second round)Florida State is the only unranked team on this list, but the Seminoles still have plenty of reason for optimism. They return two of their top three scorers from last season in guards Dwayne Bacon (15.8) and Xavier Rathan-Mayes (11.8). Last season, Bacon became the first freshman in school history to lead the Seminoles in both scoring and rebounding in the same season. The Seminoles add freshman forward Jonathan Isaac, rated as the nations No. 8 prospect in his class according to composite rankings of recruiting websites compiled by 247Sports.---LOUISVILLE2015-16 record: 23-8 (ineligible for postseason)No 13 Louisville is different from the rest of the teams on this list, as the Cardinals would have been in last years tournament if they hadnt self-imposed a postseason ban in response to an NCAA investigation. If the off-court issues dont prevent Louisville from making the field again, the Cardinals certainly should be good enough to earn an invitation. Although Louisville must replace its top three scorers from last season, the Cardinals still have plenty of talent with 6-10 forward/center Mangkok Mathiang returning from a broken foot and Quentin Snider leading the backcourt. The Cardinals are the highest-ranked team in the preseason Top 25 that failed to make last years tournament.---RHODE ISLAND2015-16 record: 17-15No. 23 Rhode Island is ranked in the preseason Top 25 for the first time since 1998-99. The Rams return four starters from last season and also get back guard E.C. Matthews, who hasnt played since tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in the 2015-16 season opener. Matthews averaged 15.3 points in 2013-14 and 16.9 points in 2014-15. Rhode Islands list of returners includes Hassan Martin, who has led the Atlantic 10 in blocked shots each of the last three seasons.---SAINT MARYS2015-16 record: 29-6 (NIT quarterfinals)The 17th-ranked Gaels return all five starters from a team that won 29 games and tied for first place in the West Coast Conference last season. Seniors Dane Pineau and Joe Rahon and juniors Emmett Naar and Calvin Hermanson all averaged over 10 points per game last season. Naar also averaged 6.4 assists and had 223 assists to tie Matthew Dellavedovas season school record. Naar, Pineau and Rahon are all preseason all-WCC selections.---UCLA2015-16 record: 15-17UCLA is ranked 16th despite finishing below .500 last season. The Bruins return four starters from last season. That list of returning starters includes senior guards Isaac Hamilton and Bryce Alford, who each averaged over 16 points last season. Hamilton had the top 2015-16 scoring average (16.8) of any Pac-12 player who is back this season. UCLA adds freshman guard Lonzo Ball, rated as the No. 3 overall prospect in his class according to the 247Sports Composite. Other freshmen for UCLA include forward T.J. Leaf (18th in the 247Sports Composite) and forward/center Ike Anigbogu (46th).---More AP college basketball: http://collegebasketball.ap.orgAndre Roberts Jersey . Banks told TSN on Jan 2 that he had no interest in playing out the option year of his contract with the Lions in 2014, and he again made that clear in a conversation with Lions GM Wally Buono last week.It was inevitable that Virat Kohli would make a big score at some point in the Test series against England, according to Michael Atherton. The India captain ended day one of the second Test in Visakhapatnam unbeaten on 151 as he made England pay for dropping him when he was on 56.The hosts closed on 317-4 after James Anderson removed Ajinkya Rahane late on with the new ball, but Kohli remains and will be confident of adding to his tally on a batsman-friendly track. Virat Kohli finished day one unbeaten on 151 England were always going to feel the force of Kohlis bat at some stage, Atherton told Sky Sports. He didnt have a particularly good series against England in 2014 when Jimmy Anderson was all over him but it all came together nicely for him today.Hes on the back of runs in that Rajkot game, so hes feeling confident. Although hes not played a Test match here, in one-day [internationals] hes got a wonderful record at this ground and he won a good toss on an excellent pitch. He was in early because of those two wickets and really he couldnt have asked for nicer conditions to bat in than he had today. He played superbly. While Kohli will take the headlines, he was ably assisted for much of the day by Cheteshwar Pujara, who notched his third hundred in as many Tests before falling to Anderson for 119. Kohli (r) and Cheteshwar Pujara both hit centuries on the opening day The pair put on 226 for the second wicket with their contrasting styles drawing comparisons with another famous Indian duo.Pujara is a wonderful player too and I think they combine well together, that was their fourth 100 partnership in Test matches; he is a good foil for Kohli, Atherton added. Its a little bit like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in years gone by. Tendulkar, as Kohli is now, is the big draw card - the man that everybody wants to come and see - but what you need down the other end is a guy who hasnt got a big ego and who isnt going to try and compete but who will get runs in whatever situation you find yourself in.dddddddddddd The challenge now for England, argues Atherton, is to take the remaining six Indian wickets before the pitch begins to deteriorate to allow themselves a chance to bat while conditions are still favourable. The pitch will change more than Rajkot, its not as firm a pitch and therefore it feels as though the top will go, said Atherton. How quickly is the key question, of course. If India get 450, its going to be difficult for England. Itll probably stay fine tomorrow but if India can bat until tea-time tomorrow, itll probably start to go on that third day which is why the toss was so important. There wont be as much bounce as Rajkot but I think its going to spin more. The best of the action from Day One of the Second Test in Visakhapatnam How Anderson rocks up tomorrow will be interesting and Stuart Broad seems to have this issue with his right foot, he only bowled 11 overs today so it hasnt been an ideal day for England.Watch highlights of day one of the second Test between India and England on Sky Sports 2 from 2pm, then stay tuned for The Verdict at 3pm on the same channel.
