Brett Morris stunning debut season at fullback last year has him ready for his return to the custodian role in place of Will Hopoate, according to Canterbury coach Des Hasler.Morris will take over the Bulldogs fullback role for Sundays NRL elimination final against Penrith from Hopoate, who will sit out the match due to his religious beliefs.NSW and Australian representative Morris starred at the back for the Bulldogs last year in his move from St George Illawarra. However he hasnt played in the No.1 jersey since. He missed more than half of this season due to a knee injury, which allowed Hopoate to move to fullback after his off season shift from Parramatta.Brett will slot in there quite easily, Hasler said at Belmore Sports Ground on Friday. He is an experienced campaigner. He is no stranger to the position, he has played quite a few games there so it wont be foreign territory to him.Morris played all of his 16 games for Canterbury at fullback last year, scoring nine tries. He has scored 10 tries in 10 games this year on the wing.Hasler said Hopoates withdrawal wasnt a distraction for his side.He missed games earlier in the year. Kasiano copped a two-match ban for making dangerous contact with Brisbane skipper Corey Parker. He has certainly freshened up and he is looking forward to the game, Hasler said at Belmore Sports Ground on Friday. It was something that we could have taken to the judiciary, but with the judiciary these days you just dont know what can happen, lets be honest nobody knows.Hasler said he didnt believe Kasiano owed his teammates after he lashed out with his boot at Brisbane skipper Corey Parker, which earned him the two match ban.I dont think that is the case, Hasler said.Tyrone Phillips moves on the wing to accommodate the omission of Hopoate.Hasler said Kiwi international Perrett remained troubled by a neck injury. We are still working away at that ,we will assess it day by day but he is still a week away, Hasler said.Dave Casper Jersey . -- Catcher Brett Hayes has agreed to a $630,000, one-year contract with the Kansas City Royals, avoiding salary arbitration. We cant worry about what everyone else is doing. The Giants host the Dodgers over the weekend while St. Louis hosts Pittsburgh. In a perfect world, the Mets will have clinched a playoff spot before Sunday and will be able to save rotation stud Noah Syndergaard for the wild-card game.We want to go as far as we can, manager Terry Collins said, according to the New York Daily News. If it means saving him to get us to the next round, we certainly got to consider it.Home-field advantage in the wild-card game could also make Sundays game not a must-win to get into the playoffs, but a must-win to play at Citi Field. Collins would then need to make a decision on what to do with Syndergaard. When you play in front of our fans, its an advantage, Collins said. They are excited. The longtime Phillies slugger is playing in what are very likely his final games in a Phillies uniform.Manager Pete Mackanin earlier in the month said he would play Howard -- who has spent a lot of the season coming off the bench -- all weekend to give him a proper exit.Howard hit a grand slam in Atlanta earlier in the week, his 24th home run of the season, one behind team leader Maikel Franco.I want him to go out gangbusters, Mackanin said in an interview earlier in the week on SportsRadio 94.1 WIP in Philadelphia. He hit that grand slam last night, which got us up to a good lead, and hes been swinging the bat well, much better the second half of the season. I certainly want him to shine the last three days of the season and hopefully the fans will get to see a good performance from him.A few good performances could potentially help the Phillies spoil their rivals playoff hopes. Or, at least make them play their play-in game away from Citi Field. ' ' '
