METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints have placed linebacker Stephone Anthony on injured reserve, coach Sean Payton said Tuesday, ending a disappointing season for the 2015 first-round draft pick.Anthony, who started every game at middle linebacker as a rookie and led the Saints with 112 tackles, was demoted this year and barely played, even when healthy. He appeared in only 10 games with a total of 16 tackles; he was inactive last week with an unspecified knee injury that is not believed to be major. This sets up 2017 as a make-or-break year for the former Clemson standout, who was acquired with the 31st pick in last years draft as part of the trade that sent Jimmy Graham to the Seattle Seahawks. The Saints (6-8) could use as much young talent as they can get on a defense that has ranked among the NFLs worst over the past three years -- though it has finally started to climb out of the cellar over the past two months.Payton was candid last week when he talked about the read-and-recognition issues that have held Anthony back.Hes explosive, hes disruptive and yet his key-and-diagnose and his instincts at times are off, Payton said last week. Its run, and hes dropping back in a pass mode. Or its pass, and hes at the line of scrimmage. His ability to see and diagnose some very simple reads, for instance, are the keys for him getting better. ...Thats been the thing thats kept him back. And quite honestly, its kept him back on special teams [too]. Because a player like him who is on special teams, if hes covering a kick or covering a punt, generally a guy that can run and hit shows up. And hes been, I would say, just OK in that area.Anthony said last week that Paytons criticism is fair.I think every player goes through, I guess, a growth stage. Sometimes every linebacker can have a misread. But its just the little things I gotta get better at, Anthony said. So I think Coach Payton was right on.The Saints tried moving Anthony from middle linebacker to strongside linebacker this offseason so he could feature his athleticism without being in the position to relay in the play calls or make adjustments at the line of scrimmage.Anthony struggled at the unfamiliar Sam linebacker position, though, and played better in Week 14 against Tampa Bay when he was thrust back into the starting middle linebacker role as an injury replacement for Craig Robertson.Payton said the Saints are not yet sure what position Anthony will play in the future.I think its something that, obviously, the sooner, the better we can sort out, Payton said. I was encouraged with the [Week 14 performance]. Thats what he has to keep working on.The Saints used the vacant roster spot to sign receiver Corey Fuller off the Detroit Lions practice squad. Moussa Sissako Jersey . -- The Missouri Tigers might not have a roster full of superstars. Azzeddine Toufiqui Paris Saint-Germain Jersey . This should be celebrated because it will not always be this way. With the amount of money given to players by their clubs these days, it is a wonder that so many of those teams allow the sport to continue to take away many of their assets so they can play for a different team in the middle of their season. http://www.parissaintgermainfcstore.com/Women-Neymar-Paris-Saint-Germain-Jersey/ . -- Eastern Kentucky thrives off creating havoc for others. Marco Verratti Jersey . Mitch Holmberg added a goal and three assists. Connor Chartier also scored for the Chiefs (3-0-0). Luke Harrison spoiled Garrett Hughsons shutout bid with a power-play goal at 13:17 of the third period. The Spokane goaltender finished with 28 saves, including a Brandon Fushimi penalty shot in the second period that would have tied the game 1-1. Alec Georgen Paris Saint-Germain Jersey . The nimble-footed quarterback got his wish, dashing through the snow and a weary defence all the way into the NCAA record book. COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If there is panic and unrest in the Ohio State camp after Saturdays upset loss to Penn State, nobody was displaying it Monday.Coach Urban Meyer said he doesnt foresee any major personnel changes or adjustments in play calling. Quarterback J.T. Barrett said hes not particularly worried about the passing game, which struggled in the 24-21 loss at Happy Valley. The message: Whatever problems there were can be fixed, and all of Ohio States goals are still attainable. The sun came up, guard Billy Price said. Weve been here before. (Losing) isnt an occurrence that happens often, but we grow from this, we get tighter together and we focus in on us, and we dont worry about anything else. Because everybody is a couch coach. Everybody thinks they have the whistle, but we need to focus in on who we are.Maybe theres no panic, but there is plenty to be concerned about after Ohio State (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) dropped from No. 2 to No. 6 in the AP Top 25 poll as the result of the loss, which was only the fifth of the Urban Meyer era.Receivers struggled to separate from defenders, and Barrett ran for his life much of the time from pass rushers his offensive line struggled to block. Barrett was sacked six times, including twice on the final drive to end the game. The run game bogged down, averaging fewer than 5 yards per carry. A blocked Ohio State field goal attempt led to a Penn State touchdown. Ohio State had a punt blocked, too.The statistics dont look bad -- 413 yards of total offense -- but the vertical passing game was kept mostly in check by unranked Penn State. Barretts longest completion was 34 yards, underscoring that tthe Buckeyes continue to struggle hitting the deep passes.dddddddddddd The 168 yards rushing included a single 74-yard touchdown run by Curtis Samuel in the third quarter. Its hard to put it on one thing, Meyer said. Its a multitude of things. It has regressed a little bit. Certainly where there were plays to be made. We hook up on a couple of those plays, we win the game and were fine.Barrett acknowledged that the passing game needs to be better, but said, Im at a good place. Communication and timing could be better, he said, but he saw nothing on video Sunday that really alarmed him. He said the myriad offensive mistakes were out of character. It was a lot of little things that in games like that become big things when exploited, he said. Thats what we saw on film, things that can be corrected, and it wasnt anything game plan-wise that we werent ready for. We just didnt execute, and it showed.Ohio State returns home Saturday to play Northwestern (4-3, 3-1), which has won four out of five after playing poorly early in the season. The following week, the Buckeyes will play No. 7 Nebraska, which will be coming in either undefeated or fresh off a loss to Wisconsin. If the Buckeyes can win out, beat a likely undefeated Michigan on Nov. 26 and win the Big Ten Championship, last Saturdays stumble will be a distant memory. Were going to find out what were made of, Barrett said.---Follow Mitch Stacy at http://twitter.com/mitchstacyFor some of his other recent stories: http://bigstory.ap.org/content/mitch-stacy ' ' '
