FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The New York Jets might be without the man in the middle of their offensive line.Center Nick Mangold appears unlikely to play Sunday at Cleveland because of a sprained right ankle that has him in a walking boot.It doesnt look good right now, coach Todd Bowles said Thursday. Hes not running yet. Hes walking. As the days go by, if hes not running yet, it doesnt look good. But well hold out another day or so.Mangold was injured early in the first quarter against Baltimore last Sunday and was replaced by Wesley Johnson. That would likely be the plan again against the Browns, although the Jets signed center Kyle Friend to the practice squad this week. You have a hard time replacing Nick, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey said. Theres a guy thats been an All-Pro and plays at a high level every week, a highly intelligent football player that manages a lot of things for you. We have a lot of confidence in Wesley, but at the same time, some of those other players are going to have to take some ownership and leadership in this thing as well, so that we get everything communicated correctly.Rookie linebacker Darron Lee will miss his second straight game with a sprained ankle. The first-round draft pick was the Jets leading tackler at the time of his injury at Arizona two weeks ago. Like Mangold, Lee was also wearing a walking boot during practice.Offensive lineman Brent Qvale (neck) and linebacker Bruce Carter (quadriceps) have also been ruled out.Running back Matt Forte (knee) sat out practice because the Jets wanted to keep him off the turf during the indoor session, but Bowles said hell play Sunday.Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins (high ankle sprain), left tackle Ryan Clady (shoulder), cornerback Buster Skrine (knee) and safety Antonio Allen (Achilles) also didnt practice.Defensive lineman Sheldon Richardson was out for a second straight day with an excused absence. After the win over the Ravens, Richardson said an uncle had been killed last week. Bowles expected Richardson to return Friday and play Sunday.Wide receiver Brandon Marshall (foot), defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson (ankle), running back Bilal Powell (turf toe) and tight end Kellen Davis (hip) were all limited.Wilkerson missed last weeks game with the injury, which is lingering soreness from the broken leg he suffered in the season finale in January. Its the tendon by the ankle thats bothering me, he said. Im just rehabbing it and getting treatment every day.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFLKevin Kiermaier Rays Jersey . But, I mean, this is a unique situation. Hopefully we can get the film one day and watch it when were old, sitting somewhere.Backed up by safeties Eric Weddle and Lardarius Webb, Wright and Smith helped Baltimore limit Taylor to a mere 111 yards passing. Weddle was signed as a free agent and Webb has been shifted to free safety from cornerback.Eric Weddle, hes a different kind of guy back there, Wright said. Hes like a defensive coordinator.Wright was burned several times last season after being signed in October. But on this day, he was exceptional.Big time, is how Weddle described it. Everybody got an eye-opener today of what hes all about. It happened quickly. Three plays into their season, the Bills were already digging out of negative territory. One 2-yard pass completion over the middle was all the positive yardage the Bills couldd muster.dddddddddddd. Running back LeSean McCoy was stuffed for a 6-yard loss and Taylors pass to the left was caught by Mike Gillisee for a 4-yard loss.Wright penetrated into the backfield to make the tackle on both losses, setting the tone for Baltimores defensive renaissance.A year ago, the Ravens repeatedly failed to come up with a big stop in the fourth quarter, one reason why they went 5-11 and lost nine games by eight points or fewer. Our corners played elite football out there, coach John Harbaugh said. If we can play like that in the back end, were going to have a chance to win some games. The pass defense was impressive, but Baltimore was also impenetrable against the run, allowing only 65 yards on 24 carries.Us keeping them to 60-plus yards was great, but obviously we can do better, defensive tackle Brandon Williams said. We want to hold them to zero.Lofty expectations, indeed, but the Ravens would like to think this is only the beginning.Today was just a glimpse of what we can become, Weddle said. Its still a work in progress. We still have areas we need to get better in, but when we needed to get a stop, we got it.And that gives our defense some confidence for the future.---AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '
