Roberto Martinez says he is pleased with the manner in which Everton went about earning a point in their 1-1 draw at home to Southampton.Everton took the lead in Saturdays Premier League clash at Goodison Park in the 68th minute through Ramiro Funes Mori, before being pegged back by Sadio Mane eight minutes later.Despite that, Martinez was pleased with how his much-changed side secured a draw against a dominant Southampton. Its a good point in the way we had to fight very hard to cope with a demanding fixture, Martinez told Sky Sports. Obviously the amount of players missing stretched the squad like we havent been stretched before, and we had two young players (Tom Davies and Callum Connolly) making their debuts, and I thought they coped with the environment really well. When you get in the lead, its always a bit of a disappointment [to draw], and you felt when we took the lead, we couldve held onto it. But I think the point was a well-fought one, we had to work very hard for it and the squad reacted when it was needed. Paul Merson believes this week could determine the future of Roberto Martinez as Everton manager Martinez made six changes from the side that drew 0-0 at Crystal Palace in midweek, and that showed in Evertons slightly unconvincing performance at Goodison.Sometimes you have to dig in and work hard and that came out very clearly, said Martinez. At the beginning, we looked a little bit disjointed after so many changes from the last game, but we had focus and desire to get ourselves in front, we scored the goal and I can sense the disappointment in the side because we dropped two points. The result leaves Everton in the bottom half of the Premier League table, and Martinez admitted just four wins at home all season has not been good enough from his side. Everton now face a huge week with the Merseyside derby on Wednesday followed by their FA Cup semi-final with Manchester United on Saturday. We havent been collecting the wins weve expected to at home and thats always difficult, said Martinez. We have a really important week ahead, and we know that when we need our fans theyre behind us and make a real difference, and Im sure well be able to pay them back. Also See:Mane rescues point at EvertonEverton 1-1 Southampton recapEverton statsGet a £10 free bet!Cheap Mariners Jerseys . They might have some players coming back that are clearly in their best 18, so they will want to make sure that they get a really good hitout.Theres so many things that probably can stem from this match in terms of ladder position, but we cant control what happens with the other teams, so weve got to go 100 per cent on Saturday night..dddddddddddd.He doubted the two sides would keep anything back from each other despite a strong chance they would clash again in September. There could be some with run-with roles on the weekend that they might do and we might do but I dont think that will change two weeks on if we happen to confront each other, Cameron said.He regarded the last-round showdown against a potential finals adversary as a good lead-in to their inaugural September campaign. You want to come in (to finals) match hardened and match fit and playing against some really top opposition and were going to get that on Saturday night, he said. With the top-four sides level on points and fifth, sixth and seventh all one win back, Cameron anticipated none of the finals-bound teams would be coasting. The shifting of spots on the ladder just makes it full-on footy, he said.Cameron said key defender Aidan Corr, who last played a senior game in round three, was pushing for a spot after playing three NEAFL matches and fellow back Matt Buntine was likely to be available after copping a head knock last week.
