Sebastian Vettel admitted he was unable to unleash Ferraris true pace on a day to forget for the German at the Monaco GP. A lack of grip seemed to be a problem for all drivers in Monte Carlo but Vettel struggled more than most, particularly in Practice Two when he collided with the barriers twice.Vettel first damaged his rear wing at Mirabeau before losing his back-end again at Sainte Devote, narrowly avoiding another accident but damaging the SF16-Hs alloys on his way to a disappointing ninth place. P2: Ricciardo fastest from Hamilton as Red Bull impressBoth the Scuderia and the four-time world champion and are under pressure to perform after an inconsistent start to the season, and he admitted it was a scrappy day despite finishing third in P1.I certainly tried a lot, not everything worked, he told Sky Sports F1. Overall it was a bit of a scrappy day. Its ok, I think the pace is in the car, we just struggled a bit to get it out today.Theres always pressure. Theres always the desire to do well. You could call it pressure but its also the reason we are here. Were not here to finish eighth, or fifth, were here to win. Ferrari chief Sergio Marchionne issued a stark warning ahead of the Spanish GP, stating he expected a first win of 2016 sooner rather than later. However, his team then failed to capitalise on both Mercedes crashing out in Barcelona. It was Red Bull who took their chances on that occasion, and again in Monaco the four-time constructors champions looked to be the Silver Arrows main rivals with their package suiting the low-speed corners at F1s showpiece event.Whens the Monaco GP on Sky?Daniel Ricciardo finished six tenths clear of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in P2, while Kimi Raikkonen could only manage seventh and ninth on Thursday. But when asked if Ferrari were now the third fastest team, Vettel added:No. Its difficult to say what people did. As from us we didnt have a good day. If you look at the standings we do not belong there, we will be a lot better on Saturday. For today, it was not the main focus to rank high up. As I said, the running we had today was a bit scrappy. We tried a couple of things and its fair to say some of them didnt work. While the Dodgers are preparing for the playoffs, the Padres showed their future has promise behind two rookies.WINNIPEG -- Despite best efforts to ensure a healthy starting lineup for the CFL season opener Thursday, Winnipeg Blue Bombers coach Tim Burke says Chris Matthews remains a question mark. "We will know the morning of the game whether he can play or not," Burke said Tuesday after the teams No. 1 receiver last season did not attend practice. The CFLs outstanding rookie in 2012, Matthews is nursing a minor ankle injury sustained during Sundays practice. But Burke was a little more optimistic Tuesday than he had been earlier about Matthews prognosis. "Right now, I would say its closer to him playing than not playing," he said. "It depends on how fast he can heal up in the next 48 hours." If he can play, missing a few days of practice wont hurt Matthews performance, Burke said. Receiver Terrence Edwards, who had off-season foot surgery, will be on the field. "Im really surprised at how well hes moving," Burke said of the veteran, who also topped the 1,000-yard mark last season for the fifth time as a Bomber. "Last week I was going I dont know if hes going to be ready, and this week he looks great." Burke says he feels the offence is ready but he has had questions this season about his defence.dddddddddddd "I feel better about our defence," he said after practice Tuesday. "I still think . . . because we have a couple of young guys there that havent played a CFL game, Im a little concerned for them." On defence, the Bombers have rookies Desia Dunn, a linebacker who could be a starter with Johnny Sears still out, defensive back Marty Markett and defensive end Freddie Harris. Burke says rookies can make their first game a bigger event that it should be and hes going to remind them they dont have to win it all by themselves. Despite a new look offence and new protection schemes to try and keep quarterback Buck Pierce out of harms way as much as possible, Burke says the opposition Thursday is much more of a blank slate. The Montreal Alouettes have a new head coach and a new defence this season. "They didnt show much in pre season. What we did see was different than what Montreal did under Marc Trestman and certainly different than what (Jeff) Reinebold did last year on defence," said Burke. "We have no idea what theyre doing and they know what were doing." ' ' '
