London Irish have brought in Brendan Venter as their new technical director and have promoted Nick Kennedy to director of rugby.Venter, who was part of South Africas World Cup-winning side in 1995, returns to the club he made 84 appearances for and will focus on taking the club back into the Aviva Premiership. He will bring a wealth of experience to the role having coached at Saracens and the Sharks and has acted swiftly at the Exiles promoting Kennedy to his new role while Clark Laidlaw will act as assistant coach. The main reason why I decided on London Irish is because I have so many good memories and friends still at the club which made for me a sound and easy decision to be part of the club going forward, Venter said. The club has genuine ambition to compete in the Premiership and in Europe and has the foundations in place to enable it to do so.Im looking forward to working with the players, coaches, board and management to realise the clubs ambitions.Kennedy, who was formerly part of their academy staff and replaces Tom Coventry, will be aided by George Skivington, Declan Danaher and Paul Hodgson who will look after the forwards, defence and skills respectively.London Irish prides itself on its academy which saw great success last season, and as a club we will be making sure that we continue to maintain the highest standards as we strive to create a pathway for youngsters coming through the system, Kennedy said. Relevant steps have been made including the appointment of new staff to the academy department to ensure the consistency of the academy programme. As part of my role as director of rugby I will continue to oversee the academy programme, enabling me to develop and utilise the young talent that will ultimately become the future of London Irish.London Irish CEO Bob Casey added: Not only is Brendan respected throughout the game for his expertise and experience, he has also been a steadfast friend of this club. Were delighted that he has accepted our invitation to return to lead us through what we know will be a testing season in the Championship. It is very encouraging that weve retained the talented Clark Laidlaw as an assistant coach and are delighted that Declan Danaher, Paul Hodgson and George Skivington will help with the coaching of the senior team.Declan, Paul and Nick have transformed the academy since they took over in 2014 bringing a wealth of playing experience and coaching expertise, as well as an intimate appreciation of the club and its heritage, to the young players in their charge. Im sure they will be a valuable addition to Brendans coaching team.Cheap Los Angeles Rams Jerseys . Leidner didnt show symptoms until after the game last week, coach Tracy Claeys said, when the Gophers offense struggled through a 14-7 loss to Iowa.Hes on the concussion protocol, so whenever he gets through that, then hell be cleared to play, Claeys said, adding: I dont want him to play until hes healthy, and Ill rely on doctors to tell me that.Leidner completed only 13 of 33 passes for 166 yards, with two interceptions against the Hawkeyes. Wide receiver Rashad Still and defensive end Taiyon Devers were listed as out on the depth chart a week ago, and both of them were able to play by Saturday. Concussions are unpredictable, though, and Claeys didnt express any optimism that the fifth-year senior would progress in time to face the Terrapins.Wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky was already touting Rhodas attitude and ability while preparing for the new look.Obviously were going to miss Mitch out there, but hell still be at practice, coaching Rhoda up, getting with him as well. Were just going to take it with a grain of salt and go, Wolitarsky said, adding: Just to see the amount of work hes put in, and the amount of taalent he came in with that hes really crafted, its amazing.ddddddddddddhoda joined the program as a walk-on from Cretin-Derham Hall High School in St. Paul, just a few miles east of campus. His only action this season came in the fourth quarter of Minnesotas 58-28 win over Indiana State, and he has attempted just two passes in his college career. Its going take us a couple days in practice to figure out the game plan and fitting it into what he does best, Claeys said.Claeys said the Gophers would prefer to use a redshirt season for Croft, who played a bit in relief of Leidner as a freshman. Leidner played through a painful left foot injury last year that required surgery, but he has started 27 straight games at quarterback for the Gophers since sitting out Sept. 20, 2014, against San Jose State.Theres other leaders on that offense, said linebacker Nick Rallis. Its nothing to worry about. Thats what we got a team for, you know? The matchup between Minnesota (3-2, 0-2) and Maryland (4-1, 1-1) is the first regular-season game between them. The Gophers will also be without senior right tackle Jonah Pirsig, who has a high sprain of his left ankle and will miss two to three weeks.---Online:AP college football website: http://www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
