India batsman Rohit Sharma has spoken highly of the sides new head coach Anil Kumble, describing the former India captain as an inspiring figure from whom he had learnt a lot.Rohit played alongside Kumble towards the end of the legspinners India career. The two renewed their professional relationship when Kumble served as Mumbai Indians team mentor from 2013 to 2015, a period during which the team won two IPL titles and a Champions League T20 title. Kumbles first assignment as India coach is the four-Test series in the West Indies in July and August.I have two [three] years of experience [with him] at Mumbai Indians and I know the kind of things we spoke about. I was the captain and he was the coach and mentor of the team. I got to learn a lot from him, Rohit said at an Express Adda event in Mumbai. I was fortunate enough to play with him during the last months before he retired. I remember in 2008, I was part of the Test squad to Sri Lanka and he was the captain. And he always had this attitude of never giving up, which as a young player is so inspiring. You have to keep fighting no matter what. If the game is slipping away from your hands, dont give up till the last ball is bowled. Thats how he played his cricket. You get the feeling that he was someone who wouldnt let go too easily. Thats the kind of message that he wanted to send across. Thats the kind of message we also want as young players. Hes very inspiring.Rohit was also full of praise for Ravi Shastri, whose 18-month tenure as India team director came to an end after the World T20 earlier this year. Shastri had been appointed to the role in August 2014, after Indias dismal loss in the Test series in England. During Shastris tenure, India made it to the semi-finals of successive global events - the 2015 World Cup and the 2016 World T20 - and briefly occupied the No. 1 Test ranking earlier this year. Shastri had applied for the position of head coach in June, but his application was ultimately unsuccessful as Kumble was chosen.[Shastri] took up the responsibility when we were in a shambles, Rohit said. As soon as he came, he created a positive atmosphere around us.Rohit added that Shastri had been a big influence on Indian cricket for the past 18 months. The hours for watching many of the co-sanctioned events on the European Tour schedule over the coming weeks may mean some unsociable hours watching television or some good use of your Sky Plus, but they are always good for keeping up to date with the games emerging talent.Im sure not many of you would have been aware of Soomin Lee and Miguel Tabuena before the start of the Maybank Championship Malaysia and although ultimately neither player won, they both made their mark in Kuala Lumpur. Miguel Tabuena finished in a share of second I actually first met Miguel when he was just 15 and playing in China, where he picked up a silver medal at the 2010 Asian Games. He turned pro soon after and although there were some last day collapses and he even lost his Asian Tour card at one point, it was clear he had real talent. But over the last six months, the boy has turned into a man. Hes added distance off the tee and, after winning on the Asian Tour in December and mixing it with Jordan Spieth in Singapore in January, hes shown he is now ready to compete with the best. Soomin Lee had the tournament in his grasp, but two late double-bogeys cost him hiis first win While Miguel will be buoyant about finishing tied for second, Lee would have struggled to sleep on Sunday night.dddddddddddd Two double-bogeys in the final three holes when the tournament was within his grasp will take some recovering from. Its only natural that a young guy playing in just his second European Tour event and leading for almost the entire day may suffer an attack of nerves. Hopefully in time hell see the positives because there were plenty for the Korean, such as sitting 17th on the Race to Dubai with over 200,000 euros of winnings. Marcus Fraser benefitted from Lees mistakes to pick up his third European Tour win Naturally, you have to give credit to Marcus Fraser for making the most of Lees late mishaps. I didnt think Marcus was playing his best golf tee to green over the weekend, but his short game was outstanding. His final scramble of the day at the 72nd hole gave him a long-overdue third European Tour title. All that hard work, battling back from injuries paid off big time.Fraser now heads to Perth along with the likes of Louis Oosthuizen and Victor Dubuisson for another co-sanctioned event, this time with both the Asian Tour and the PGA of Australia. Stay up late or get up early, there may be another new kid on the block or two to watch out for.
