BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil -- Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari will have all of his top players available for the Confederations Cup semifinal against South American rival Uruguay on Wednesday. The Brazilian federation said Monday that defender David Luiz and defensive midfielder Paulinho will recover from injuries in time for the decisive match in Belo Horizonte. Paulinho missed the group stage match against Italy because of a left ankle sprain, while David Luiz was replaced in the first half because of a right leg injury. Brazil beat Italy 4-2 to win Group A and set up the matchup with the regional rivals. Italy will play World Cup champion Spain on Thursday. The hosts have won two consecutive Confederations Cups, and three overall. It hasnt won a significant competition since the 2009 title in South Africa. Paulinho, touted to move to Tottenham when the transfer window opens in July, injured his ankle in Brazils second game in the World Cup warm-up competition, against Mexico. Doctors said he would have been able to play against Italy, but Brazil had already secured a place in the semifinals in advance and Scolari decided to keep him out so he could fully recover for the semifinal. Chelsea defender David Luiz had been doubtful to start against Italy after breaking his nose against the Mexicans, but the injury didnt keep him from playing. What kept him from finishing the match was a bruised right leg sustained early in the game. He had to leave the field before halftime and the injury was still bothering him on Sunday. Reserve striker Bernard injured his right foot in the teams first training session ahead of the match at the Mineirao, but both David Luiz and Paulinho practiced regularly. They are considered key for the Brazilian defence when the team faces some of the tournaments top strikers in Diego Forlan, Edinson Cavani and Luis Suarez. "They are all very good strikers, they can be decisive," Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar said on Monday. "We will need all the help we can get because we will be playing against a very strong attack. We will have to be very careful because they can decide the match in the blink of an eye." The Brazilian defence did well in the opener against Japan and in the second match against Mexico, keeping their attackers at bay and not conceding any goals. But without Paulinho and David Luiz against Italys attack led by Mario Balotelli, the Brazilians conceded two goals. Brazil hadnt conceded goals in three straight matches, including in the friendly against France just before the Confederations Cup. "We let in the goals at the right time, they didnt matter much in the end," Julio Cesar said. "We have improved a lot in defence but we know that we still havent found the right balance. We have to keep working hard to improve in that area as well as in others." Uruguay is the defending South American champion but Brazil has won the last two times the teams faced each other, both in World Cup qualifiers in 2010. Dallas hasnt ruled out the star quarterback for Sunday nights game against Philadelphia, but all signs point to Romos back injury pushing Kyle Orton into the starting role after two years of limited play as the backup. Surely Ortons name isnt the first that comes to mind for fans wanting a change after years of damaging interceptions, fumbles or, most infamously, the field goal flub when Romo dropped the snap on a kick that could have won his first playoff game in 2006. LOS ANGELES -- In the City of Angels of all places, the Baseball Gods seemed to have aligned the stars for Vin Scully and the Los Angeles Dodgers.Scully, the Hall of Fame broadcaster, works the final home game of his legendary career Sunday when Los Angeles can clinch the National League West title when it hosts the Colorado Rockies to cap a four-game series.A win by Los Angeles or a loss by San Francisco in San Diego on Sunday allows Los Angeles to claim its fourth consecutive National League West championship. No NL West club has accomplished that feat.Any team would want to clinch anywhere but its always sweeter to clinch at home, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. For that great man, that wonderful human to watch it in person here in his home, in his house, I think its only fitting.Rockies manager Walt Weiss doesnt share in Roberts enthusiasm, but believes playing for an opportunity to prevent such a title celebration can benefit his players.I think it goes without saying that its good for the young players to play down the stretch against some of these teams in (seeking) the playoffs, Weiss said. Its good for your players to see that, the young players especially. Chalk it up to experience and persepective.Brandon McCarthy (2-2 3.63 ERA) gets the start for the Dodgers instead of Rich Hill. Hill is being skipped for his scheduled start for precautionary reasons since he has had a recurrence of blisters on his index pitching fingeer.ddddddddddddHill probably will pitch in the Dodgers final regular-season series in San Francisco next weekend.McCarthy hasnt pitched since Aug. 13, when a sore right hip forced him out of a loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates and landed him on the disabled list. McCarthy lasted only 1 2/3 innings and allowed three runs on two hits with five walks against the Pirates. He hasnt earned a win since July 9 when he beat the Padres.McCarthy is 2/3 with a 4.74 ERA in seven starts against the Rockies. He pitched five scoreless innings on two hits in a victory over Colorado on July 2.Weve got McCarthy going (Sunday), Roberts said. The energy was great (Saturday) and obviously a carry-over from the (celebration) we had for Vin (Friday night) and the expectation and anticipation for clinching a fourth division title in a row.Rookie Tyler Anderson (5-5, 3.58) stands between the Dodgers and their bid for history. Anderson is 0-4 with a 5.10 ERA in six road starts and beat Los Angeles twice this season at Coors Field. Andersons last win was Aug. 31, when he blanked the Dodgers for 6 1/3 innings on six hits with five strikeouts and no walks in a 7-0 win.Anderson also defeated Los Angeles on Aug. 3, when he struck out six, walked two and allowed two runs in a 12-2 romp.Anderson pitches at Dodger Stadium for the first time.
